The need for a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East is now more urgent than ever: it is vital in the struggle for peace across the region. A nuclear weapons-free Middle East could completely transform security relations within one of the world’s most unstable regions and is a crucial component in the struggle for a nuclear weapons-free world. We need dialogue without preconditions between the countries of the region and for other countries, such as Britain, to take more effective measures in UN forums to support such a zone.
Join us for this online side event as part of the United Nations’ nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) to discuss what are the prospects for the creation of a nuclear weapons-free zone in the region and how we can build support for it.
With guest speakers including Mark Curtis, Declassified; Carol Turner, London CND Chair; Jeremy Corbyn MP; and Ben Soffa, PSC. Chaired by Sophie Bolt, CND General Secretary.
