The Movement for the Abolition of War (MAW) is delighted to welcome all to our 2025 Annual Remembrance Lecture.

Our lecturer is Lord John Alderdice, who worked as a consultant psychiatrist in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and took an active interest in the psychology of violent political conflict, before becoming involved in almost every aspect of the Irish Peace Process, including the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. He was the first Speaker of the new Northern Ireland Assembly and later one of the four members of the international Independent Monitoring Commission. He now sits in the House of Lords and is currently a member of the Select Committee on International Relations and Defence.

John Alderdice is also Director of the Centre for the Resolution of Intractable Conflict, based in Oxford, and has co-edited a recently published book, ‘Ending Wars’.

With his unique combination of hands-on experience of ending wars, and his academic background in studying them, he promises to be an incredibly relevant speaker at this pivotal moment in international relations.

The lecture will take place in Mander Hall, Hamilton House, London WC1H 9BD, the HQ of the National Education Union (NEU). Please book a seat to allow us to manage numbers.
