The London commemoration of Nagasaki Day is organised by Reverend Gyoro Nagase, of the Nipponzan Myohoji Buddist order which built the peace pagoda, and supported by Japanese Against Nuclear (JAN) and London Region CND. JAN member Shigeo Kobayashi will host the ceremony. London CND Vice Chair Hannah Kemp-Welch is among the speakers. Everyone is welcome, bring flowers and incense if you wish.

The Japanese Nipponzan Myohoji order of Buddists is known for its commitment to peace and social justice – in particular nuclear disarmament. The order has built peace pagodas across the world, including in Hiroshima in 1966 and Nagasaki in 1970, to commemorate the lives lost as a result of the atomic bombing of the two cities.

Rev Nagase has been based at the London Peace Pagoda since it opened in 1985. He believes ‘London is very important place which has an impact on all religions, races and countries.’
