The former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan died last Saturday. He will be remembered by our movement for his strong opposition to nuclear weapons, his desire to see the principles of the Non-Proliferation Treaty put in action, and his recognition that nuclear weapons are the world’s number one security threat.

The total lack of any common and coherent strategy to deal with nuclear weapons may well present the greatest danger to life on Earth.
