Throughout 2025, CND is organising a national tour of nuclear bases across Britain. They are a stark symbol of Britain’s deadly nuclear weapons – which threaten us all. We’ll be putting the spotlight on both the huge dangers and financial costs of these bases.
The BAE Systems’ shipyard at Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria has been at the centre of Britain’s nuclear weapons system for decades. It is building Britain’s next generation of nuclear-armed submarines – the Dreadnought – at an estimated cost of £205 billion. We had a very successful protest at the base in March, with good support from the local community. Click here for a report of the day.
The next stop on the nuclear bases tour will be a blockade of RAF Lakenheath on Saturday 26 April, during the peace camp being organised by Lakenheath Alliance for Peace, of which CND is a member. We hope to see you there!
