The UK’s 2025 Strategic Defence Review comes at a moment of intensifying global conflict, escalating climate crisis and soaring UK inequality. Yet, rather than rethinking the country’s militarised foreign policy in response to these pressures, the Government proposes to dramatically increase defence spending, a move that risks worsening each of these crises.
In response, CND’s Trade Union Advisory Group has supported the publication of the Alternative Defence Review. This challenges the dominant war narrative—cultivated by political elites, the military-industrial complex, and the mainstream media—and offers a new vision for peace, justice, and security.
To protest against nuclear weapons, throughout 2025 CND is organising a national tour of nuclear bases across Britain. They are a stark symbol of Britain’s deadly nuclear weapons – which threaten us all. We’re putting the spotlight on both the huge dangers and financial costs of these bases.
We’ve already had a very successful protest at the BAE Systems shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness in March, a blockade of Lakenheath air base in April and a vibrant demonstration at Devonport in Plymouth – thanks to all who supported. More actions to be announced soon!
