Talks not Bombs: Why now is the time for international nuclear disarmament
Day of Action: Saturday, June 11th
- Organise an action, street stall or photo stunt in your local village, town or city calling for Talks not Bombs.
- It would be fantastic if you could create a Talks not Bombs banner to be displayed near a local landmark and/or a sign with the name of your village or town.
- Distribute these leaflets about the TPNW.
- Get passers-by to sign this petition in support of the treaty.
The Ukraine conflict poses the the existential threat of a nuclear war between NATO and Russia for the first time in decades. Political leaders must understand what this means and realise that a nuclear exchange would be catastrophic and must be avoided at all cost.
Now is the time for the nuclear-armed states to get on board with the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). This new piece of international law facilitates global nuclear disarmament and must be supported, but so far the UK – and the rest of the nuclear-armed states – have refused to engage.
The states parties to the TPNW will meet for the first time in Vienna in June. NATO states Norway and Germany have committed to attending as observers – Britain should too.
Let’s put pressure on the government to go to Vienna with CND’s Talks not Bombs day of action on June 11th.
Please send us your photos on the day (PressOffice@cnduk.org) and we’ll share. We’ll also be looking out for your social media posts so please include @CNDuk if you’re posting on Twitter.
