Mark Rylance is an Oscar-winning actor and long-term supporter of the peace movement. He has supported many of CND’s recent campaigns. In 2016, he was named in the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world. He told CND the following when asked why he campaigns against nuclear weapons: ‘To my mind, Trident is an idea of the past. We have so many larger issues to deal with as our climate changes radically, it would be a disastrous waste of much needed funds to renew it. When would one ever use it? Pre-emptively? I hope not. After a nuclear attack? What would be the point?’ |
