All of us at the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament are deeply saddened by the passing of Hetty Bower. Our thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends.

At 108, Hetty remained a tireless and inspirational campaigner for peace and justice.

One of the original members of CND in 1958, Hetty was still campaigning against Trident replacement with us in April this year at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) in Aldermaston.

Hetty touched all who knew her with a warmth, conviction and compassion: the world has lost a unique and wonderful person.

Her daughter Maggie said: ‘Almost her last words were “Ban the bomb, for ever more”.’ It was among the songs we sang with her in her last few days.’

Hetty dedicated her life to activism, and we will continue to campaign as tirelessly as she did to realise our shared vision of a world free from nuclear weapons.
