Join the Nuclear Education Trust for the launch of a new report,  ‘Stepping Back from the Brink – The Myths of Tactical Nuclear Weapons and Limited Nuclear War’, taking place online.

With host Baroness Christine Blower, patron, Nuclear Education Trust; and guest speakers Dr Tim Street, author of ‘Stepping Back from the Brink’; the Rt Hon Lord Des Browne, former Secretary of State for Defence; Jane Kinninmont, Chief Executive, UNA-UK; and Jane Kinninmont, Chief Executive, UNA-UK.

Dr Tim Street will present report ‘Stepping Back from the Brink’ – an authoritative and detailed research into the policies and practices of all nuclear weapon states. In particular it includes an in-depth look at the potential use of tactical nuclear weapons in conventional war fighting and considers whether, following the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the nuclear taboo is eroding. It also reviews the recent decision by the UK Government to purchase 12 F-35As with the capacity to deliver US B61 “tactical” nuclear weapons.

Former Defence Secretary, Lord Des Browne, will give a keynote response to NET’s new report. As many of you will know, he is vice chairman of the Washington DC–based Nuclear Threat Initiative and convenor of the Top Level Group of UK Parliamentarians for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-proliferation. He is also a signatory of Global Zero.

We will also hear from the very well respected commentator Jane Kinninmont, Chief Executive, UNA-UK, who was previously Director of Policy and Impact for the European Leadership Network. She is a frequent commentator in the print media and broadcast media, including as a co-host of the Disorder Podcast.
