Campaigners have mounted a legal battle in response to statements made by the government that suggested they were prepared to launch a nuclear first strike.
Almost 400 activists have banded together to argue that there is strong evidence the government is planning “indiscriminate mass slaughter,” which is illegal under criminal and international law.
The UK Attorney General’s Office is investigating the dossier of evidence, compiled by the campaigners, to determine whether Prime Minister Theresa May and Defence Secretary Michael Fallon could face charges in court for conspiring to commit war crimes.
One of the campaigners, Angie Zelter, told The Herald “We are trying to present our public interest case to enable a court of law to examine our evidence and prevent the disaster of a nuclear holocaust before it is too late.”
CND will report on developments as they emerge.
