Hi CND community! Happy to meet you all and incredibly excited to step into the role of Peace Education Assistant.
I grew up in Lahore, Pakistan, completed my education in sunny Los Angeles and moved to London just about two years ago. I have worked in schools over the past five years in different capacities – as a tutor, after school mentor, family and community engagement coordinator and most recently as a SEN teaching assistant.
In my past roles I have found myself encouraging students to voice their opinions on contemporary, social and political issues. What I found was that there were not enough spaces in educational settings for these discussions to take place. I first met the CND team at national demonstrations for Palestine and felt instantly affirmed by being around people who shared values like mine. I then came across the Peace Education Assistant role, and to my luck, they thought I would be a good fit. So, I guess I’m here now!
I’m excited to continue the vital work of the Peace Education programme. As Peace Education assistant, I will support the promotion of our work on various social media platforms, develop our network of volunteers, and facilitate workshops.
Outside work, you might find me exploring new food spots in the city, trying to carve out time for a beach day or volunteering at a film festival. I am also a filmmaker and stylist, and my work focuses on the often-untold narratives of South Asian and Global Majority communities.
