Israel must end its illegal war on Iran. It’s using nuclear lies to justify attempts to secure regime change through military aggression – and risks widening a humanitarian catastrophe. Both the International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA) and the US director of national intelligence have stated that Iran is not actively pursuing a nuclear bomb. Iran is also a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel does have nuclear weapons – at least 90 of them – and Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu threatened to use them against the people of Gaza. Israel also refuses to sign up to the NPT or cooperate with the IAEA.

The British government is yet again on the wrong side of international law, repeating its mantra that Israel has a right to defend itself and sending more RAF fighter jets to the Middle East to escalate the crisis. It is also granting export licenses for Israel’s nuclear programme.

The government needs to end its support for this nuclear-armed genocidal regime. It should use its role on the UN Security Council to support diplomatic efforts and re-establish the international framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA). It should widen sanctions on Israel and impose a full arms embargo now.
