Stop bombing Iran – end the war now!
The ongoing unprovoked, illegal attacks by nuclear-armed Israel and the US against Iran has killed thousands and risks unleashing a devastating war across the Middle East. The economic impact of this war is now becoming global, destabilising the world economy and risks increasing poverty in Britain and across the world. These horrifying attacks are just the latest in Trump’s illegal military interventions and threats against sovereign states. Trump’s war drive is making the world far more dangerous and increasing the risk of nuclear weapons being used.
Stop use of British bases
The British government has buckled to the Trump administration and agreed the use of British bases RAF Fairford in Gloucester, and Diego Garcia in the Chagos Islands. These bases are critical to Trump’s illegal war on Iran. RAF Fairford, for instance, is one of only two bases in Europe that can host all US long-range bombers, including the B-52s which can launch both nuclear and massive 70,000 lb bombs. The British government argues that only ‘defensive’ operations are being conducted from them. But how ‘defensive’ can such weapons be? And how long before these bombing operations hit schools or hospitals? Starmer needs to stand up to Donald Trump and stop the use of British bases now.
End the nuclear hypocrisy
This illegal war has nothing to do with supposed nuclear threats from Iran. Nuclear-armed Israel and the US sabotaged the talks. Mediators confirmed that Iran had committed to zero uranium enrichment – meaning it would not develop a nuclear bomb. And Iran agreed to full inspections to verify this by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
It is also total nuclear hypocrisy. Iran is a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has continued engagement in nuclear talks. Yet how is this country treated? With crippling sanctions and illegal bombings. Meanwhile, nuclear-armed Israel refuses to admit it has nuclear weapons or allow inspections of its nuclear facilities. Yet it faces no pressure to disarm. Instead it is armed to hilt in its genocide of the Palestinian people. CND reasserts its support for a Nuclear Weapons-free Middle East Treaty. Israel – along with all other nuclear weapons states, including Britain – must take steps to disarm its nuclear weapons.
