Instead of wasting money on weapons, the government must instead address the frightening cost of living crisis facing millions of us this winter.

The former Prime Minister, Liz Truss, re-pledged to spend 3% of Britain’s GDP on defence – an increase from 2%. This is money for war, when the government should instead be making sure people can eat and heat their homes over the coming months. The country also needs investment in our NHS, money to build more homes, a better transport system and an answer to the energy crisis that protects us from climate change. With a new PM now in Downing Street, we will be working to reverse this disgraceful increase.

People not Trident: read CND’s report on what the cost of nuclear weapons could be spent instead

CND stands in solidarity with the workers and trade unions striking for better wages and a better future for all. Instead of spending unnecessary money on more nuclear warheads, CND calls on the government to guarantee fair wages and real pay-rises for all.

Wages not Weapons poster

None of our problems can be resolved by war, or by nuclear weapons. Our broken society cannot be rebuilt while profits come first. We need to prioritise food, homes, warmth, health, properly-paid jobs and education.
