Pat Arrowsmith was one of the organisers of the first Aldermaston March in 1958, the single event that most put CND on the public map at that time. She has been a life-long peace activist, many times imprisoned. When she was asked what one of her prison sentences was like, she replied that it was rather like her boarding school – Cheltenham Ladies’ College! She has also written a number of books and is a poet and painter.
Kate Hudson, CND General Secretary, who has worked with Pat for many years, describes her as an inspiring woman who approaches the nuclear disarmament campaign ‘with absolute dogged determination and enthusiasm. Pat has a remarkable insight into what action will make a real difference. She is as different from an armchair philosopher as it is possible to be.’ Pat is a CND vice-president. |
