Stopping Global Nuclear Threats

Wars increase the chances of nuclear weapons being used. That’s why CND campaigns against wars that could go nuclear. And with increasing international tensions, that risk is growing all the time. Join us to help build a global movement for peace and a nuclear- free future.

CND believes that the world needs to step back from the nuclear brink. Ongoing wars, conflict and tension have taken us dangerously close to the use of nuclear weapons.

The ongoing, devastating conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza directly involve nuclear-armed states. In the Asia Pacific, for over a decade, the US has been deploying more and more of its nuclear weapons to the region, and now has over 400 military bases encircling China. In response, China is accelerating the development of new nuclear weapons and missile systems.

Globally, all nuclear-armed states are upgrading or increasing their nuclear weapons.
History shows us that when nuclear tensions rise, so does public protest. And it is the pressure of public opinion for peace and nuclear disarmament that has been critical in stopping nuclear weapons states from using them again in war.

CND works with peace organisations across the world pressuring nuclear weapons states to reduce and disarm their nuclear weapons.

We support the expansion of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. We’re working with peace organisations to secure a nuclear weapons-free Middle East. We’re campaigning alongside anti-nuclear organisations in Australia against that country acquiring nuclear-powered submarines, which drives nuclear proliferation and increases the risk of nuclear confrontation with China. And we’re campaigning against missile defence systems which is also driving the nuclear arms race.

So, given all the global nuclear threats we face, now is the time to join us in this global movement campaigning for a nuclear-free future.
