The UK government’s decision to increase the size of its nuclear arsenal ends three decades of gradual reductions. This provocative action is at odds with the decision by Presidents Biden and Putin to continue bilateral nuclear reductions and risks starting a new nuclear arms race.

Following this unexpected and unwelcome announcement, CND commissioned a Legal Opinion authored by renowned experts Professor Christine Chinkin and Dr Louise Arimatsu. Their findings show a clear breach of Article VI of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
