Join CND for a webinar on radiation and women’s health, which forms part of CND’s commemorative programme marking the 75th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Our speakers are Cindy Folkers, Mary Olson and Dr Ian Fairlie.
Cindy is Beyond Nuclear’s expert on ionizing radiation and its impact on health and the environment.
Mary Olson is the founder, and Acting Director of the Gender and Radiation Impact Project, (www.genderandradiation.org) dedicated to supporting scientific research into biological sex differences in rates of harm from ionizing radiation exposure, as well as other gendered factors in radiation impact. Olson was a senior radioactive waste specialist at Nuclear Information and Resource Service for 28 years and during that time gave expert consultation on radiation relevant to the development of the new Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons to the UN Missions of Ireland and Austria, as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Dr Ian Fairlie is a CND Vice-President and science adviser. He is a leading consultant on radioactivity in the environment.
Before the meeting, you may want to read Beyond Nuclear’s handbook: Radiation and Harm to Human Health and its companion fact sheet, which is a shorter summary of studies. Another useful fact sheet is What women need to know about nuclear power.
