In June, the British Government released it Strategic Defence Review, putting the UK on a “war footing” and raising the stakes on nuclear proliferation with significant increases in military spending. This comes at the expense of public services and welfare, an escalating climate crisis and increasing poverty.
The Alternative Defence Review calls for a radical break with successive UK governments’ failed security and defence policies and offers a bold, alternative vision to militarisation — one rooted human security and common security.
The ADR was proposed by the CND Trade Union Advisory Group in response to the RMT union’s decision to ‘…campaign with other trade unions and peace organisations to convene a labour and peace movement summit to work out the basis for a new foreign policy with the promotion of peace and social justice at its heart’.
This important online meeting will discuss the ADR and how we build the campaign, with peace and social justice at its heart. Register here.
Speakers:
Alex Gordon, RMT former President and Vice-Chair ADR working group; Tom Unterrainer CND General Secretary; Tony Staunton, CND Vice-Chair and Trade Union Advisory Group member; José Nivoi, Genoa Dockers CALP.
