On Saturday, 22 March, CND kicked off its nuclear bases tour of England at the BAE Systems shipyard, Barrow-in-Furness, to protest Britain’s nuclear weapons and planned cuts to public services in this week’s budget. The protest coincided with visits to the Faslane nuclear base and BAE Shipyard by the Prime Minister and Defence Secretary, following reports of a concerning, record-breaking 204-day patrol by HMS Vanguard last week. Keir Starmer and John Healey used their visit to ramp up nuclear threats and justify increased to military spending.

Speaking to Granada Reports, CND General Secretary called out the government for funnelling billions of pounds towards arms companies, while cutting critical benefits for people. You can read more coverage of the day here and here

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday: our speakers, and to everyone who took part in our leafletting session, march, and demonstration. A gallery of images from the day is below.

The next stop on the nuclear bases tour will take place at RAF Lakenheath on Saturday 26 April, during the peace camp being organised by Lakenheath Alliance for Peace. The blockade is part of a peace camp being organised by Lakenheath Alliance for Peace, of which CND is a member. We hope to see you there!
