The militarisation of space has become an increasing concern for peace activists over the past few years. Billions of pounds are being spent by multiple countries on militarising space – on satellites, ground-based stations and new technologies such as armed drones, controlled through satellites. Warfare has become almost totally dependent on space technology.
Every year, the Global Network against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space – of which CND is a member – calls a Keep Space for Peace week of action. This year it is taking place between October 1st and October 8th.
The Global Network invites activists from around the world to hold local events during the week: let us know (information@cnduk.org) if you are planning something.

CND has published a briefing on the militarisation of space along with Drone Wars. ‘For Heaven’s Sake: Examining the UK’s Militarisation of Space’ outlines the UK’s military space programme and associated developments, examines some of the governance, environmental, and ethical issues associated with the growing exploitation of space, and sets out a number of recommendations.
