It’s been a privilege meeting so many of you since I started working for CND. I am continuously inspired by the dedication of CND members and supporters. Earlier this year, for example, I was amazed by the incredible mobilisation in Plymouth. Despite heavy rain, hundreds of people came out to raise awareness of the dangers of the thirteen nuclear submarines left unused at HMS Devonport.
Witnessing the defiant blockade of RAF Lakenheath, where it’s been confirmed that US nukes are now being housed, was another highlight of my year. Likewise, I am so proud of CND’s important contribution to the movement for freedom and justice in the Middle East.
We have our work cut out for us, however. The threat of nuclear weapons being used in war is now at its highest since the horrific US-bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, eighty years ago. In this context, it’s more important than ever that we build and strengthen the global movement for a nuclear-free future.
As the acting Membership and Fundraising Officer, my focus has been on developing outreach initiatives that will help us to involve a new generation of activists into our vital campaign work. Please always feel free to reach out to me if you have your own ideas about how we can do this. I’ll see you on the campaign trail!
