We need a nuclear weapons free Middle East!

The need for a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East is now more urgent than ever. It is vital in the struggle to a peace across the region.

There is a strong record of establishing nuclear weapons-free zones internationally. The creation of these regional treaties has encouraged cooperation between countries and possible threats have been transferred into agreements on maintaining peace.

A nuclear weapons-free Middle East could completely transform security relations within one of the world’s most unstable regions and is a crucial component in the struggle for a nuclear weapons-free world.

We call on the government to:

• Promote dialogue without preconditions between the countries of the region in order to secure a WMD-free zone

• Take more effective measures in United Nations forums to support such a WMD-free zone.
