CND today condemned as ‘undemocratic’ the decision by the Adjudication Panel for England to suspend Mayor Ken Livingstone from office for four weeks.
CND Chair Kate Hudson said, “Ken Livingstone has been elected to serve the needs of the people of London, and his ability to do that should not be removed by a small number of unelected people. It is the people of London who will suffer as a result of this undemocratic decision. The Mayor has an outstanding record on advancing the interests of Londoners with regard to peace and many other issues and should be allowed to get on, uninterrupted with the work he has been elected to do.”
CND has worked closely with Mayor Livingstone during his time in office, on issues of great significance to Londoners, including the dangers of war and nuclear weapons for urban centres, the impact of the Iraq war on the economy of London, and the health and environmental risks posed by nuclear transports through London.
