England-only

CND Peace Education’s workshops and talks can only be delivered in schools and colleges in England. Schools/colleges in Scotland may be interested in sessions delivered by Peace Education Scotland.

Cost

All our sessions are free. However, we do request that the school reimburses our School Speaker travel costs if possible.

DBS and teacher supervision

Our School Speakers are not eligible for Enhanced DBS checks (with Children’s Barred Lists checks) as their role does not fall under the Government definition of ‘regulated activity’ (visiting schools once a week/four times a month or more, or unsupervised by a DBS-checked individual). Currently, not all of our School Speakers have had a recent Enhanced DBS check (without Barred Lists check), and they should therefore be supervised at all times by a teacher from the school. If your school does require our School Speaker(s) to have a DBS certificate, please let us know this in advance.

Support from school staff

The supervising member of staff will be required to encourage participation and to manage challenging behaviour.

Room requirements

A suitable classroom or hall with a computer and projector/interactive whiteboard is required, preferably with audio so we can show film clips. Internet access is also helpful. We will bring PowerPoint presentations and film clips on a memory stick. For our workshops, we ask that the school provides pens, colouring pens and plain A3 paper. The School Speaker may need access to a photocopier.

Refreshments and lunch

We require School Speakers to be offered water to drink. If possible/applicable, we would be grateful if they are also provided with tea/coffee and lunch.

Information for us

Please fill in the booking form with as much information as possible, to allow us to tailor the session(s) to your students as well as we can. Please let us know if:

* You want the session(s) to link to a particular subject or area of the curriculum

* The students have studied nuclear weapons issues previously (e.g. in History, RE, Citizenship, or Government & Politics)

* Any students have special requirements (such as SEN or EAL)

Information for students

We require that students are aware of your school’s policies on behaviour. Our School Speakers will not teach students who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or who demonstrate abusive language or behaviour. Mobile phones are not to be used during sessions and should be turned off.

Cancellations

Please give us plenty of notice for cancellations.

Health and safety

You are required to have valid Public Liability Insurance and a Risk Assessment for the area that will be used for the session. CND can provide an Activity Risk Assessment upon request.
