Join the New Lucas Plan working group in the Derby leg of their Lucas Plan roadshow.
This event is part of the New Lucas Plan project which arose from the conference celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Lucas Plan in 2016.
The Lucas Plan of the 1970s was a celebrated attempt by workers at the arms related company, Lucas Aerospace, to develop a plan for conversion of the company to the production of socially useful products.
Today, we are facing a convergence of crises: militarism and nuclear weapons, climate chaos, and the destruction of jobs by automation. Yet production still follows the dictates of the market, not of social need or environmental protection
This event is therefore part of a project seeking to change what we produce, but also how we produce it, and to think politically about technology. This event seeks to engage with activists in different social movements with the possibly aim of developing a New Lucas Plan for the Derby area.
You can be part of this. It’s in our hands: we have to show that alternatives are possible. Together we can start creating the Lucas Plans of the future. It could be the best way to make sure we still have a future.
Speakers will include members of the Lucas Aerospace Combine, members of the New Lucas Plan working groups and representatives of local organisations. There will be a screening of a short version of THE PLAN, and new film about the Lucas Plan.
The event is free, but donations are welcome in order to cover room costs. Booking is required for this event, which can be done via the Eventbrite page or by emailing info@breakingtheframe.org.uk.
