It’s midnight in Gaza. Over 20,000 Gazans have been killed and millions displaced. The number of explosives dropped on the territory equates to two Hiroshima-type bombs. Israeli Heritage Minister, Amihai Eliyahu, claimed that nuclear weapons were “one of the possibilities” open to the Israeli government in its war on Gaza.
The global mass movement for peace that has risen in response to this horrendous state of affairs has seen millions protest, stage sit-ins and march in defence of peace. In Britain, CND has played a major part in these mobilisations, alongside dozens of other organisations.
It’s in this context that Greater Manchester & District CND will be hosting our 2024 Annual General Meeting. As well as motions and elections, we will be joined by Ellie Kinney from the Conflict and Environment Observatory (CEOBS) to discuss the climate consequences of the assault on Gaza.
The AGM will take place on Saturday 3rd February in the Canalside Room in Bridge 5 Mill. Proceedings will begin at 11am with the discussion of nominations, resolutions, group reports and elections. We will break for lunch at 1pm and then proceed to the talks at 1:45pm. The AGM should be finished by 3pm. We have received nominations and resolutions, which you can access here. The deadline for amendments is 29th January.
Anybody who is a member of CND can attend. If you are not, feel free to join the organisation, or you can attend as an observer.
