Join Southampton CND for their annual Hiroshima and Nagasaki commemoration event in Riverside Park, near the children’s play area.
The evening will be chaired by Dr Frank Boulton, with a short speech from Cllr Steven Barnes-Andrews, previous mayor of Southampton, then followed by a speech by Kate Hudson, national secretary of CND. Members of the public are then invited to lay paper boats containing a lit candle over a large outline of the CND symbol painted on the grass. There will then be a short period of silence to remember all those killed in the dropping of the atomic weapons in 1945 and to work to ensure that such weapons are never used again.
