Join Southampton CND to commemorate the anniversary of the Hiroshima bombings, near the children’s playground north of Cobden bridge.
The Mayor of Southampton, Cllr Steven Barnes Andrews, will open the event and then Daniel Blaney, vice-chair of national CND, will speak. The public will then purchase paper boats containing a candle and preceded by the Mayor and Daniel Blaney will walk to the nearby pontoon and launch the paper boats on to the River Test. The boats then are carried down the river to represent the souls of those killed in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
