The government has given the green light to a new nuclear power station on Anglesey in Wales.

Energy secretary Greg Clark announced yesterday that negotiations with Hitachi had begun and that the government is prepared to spend billions of pounds from public coffers to allow the project to go ahead.

This is a dreadful decision. There is no safe solution for radioactive nuclear waste, nuclear power is more expensive than renewable energy and it poses very serious risks to human health and the environment.

It’s crucial our voice is heard now that negotiations have begun. CND calls on the government to cancel all plans for new reactors, phase out all nuclear power production, and commit to developing an energy system based on renewable energy. We invite all of our supporters to sign our No to Nuclear Power petition.
