What are these extra Truman On Trial resources for Citizenship?

The webpages below are collections of online resources to accompany the Citizenship classroom and homework activities referred to in our Truman On Trial teaching pack’s insert: ‘Additional information and guidance for Citizenship teachers’. The insert is also downloadable here as a pdf.

The webpages:

1. Tensions between the USA and Russia, particularly regarding their respective withdrawal from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty in 2018-19

2. The shifting relationship between the USA and North Korea, from mid-2017 to mid-2019

3. Keir Starmer, Jeremy Corbyn, Donald Trump, and Kim Jong-Un on using their country’s nuclear weapons, and limits on their power to do so

4. The development of legal recourse regarding war crimes, an overview of the International Criminal Court (and how it differs from UK criminal courts), and whether or not it would be legal for the UK to use Trident

5. The current Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) initiative via the United Nations, supported by civil society groups in the UK and elsewhere

6.  Follow-up activities for Lesson 3: Media Reporting, particularly on analysing media bias and identifying fake news

Each webpage includes:
  •  A wide range of resources you could use to teach your students about the topic in a stimulating and relevant way
  • The resources’ links to KS3 and GCSE Citizenship curriculum content
  • Guidance on which age groups and abilities they are most suitable for
  • Specific suggestions on how the resources can be used in the classroom
